Whoopie pies

A generational favourite originating in Maine and Pennsylvania where they are a staple of restaurants, stores and gas station counters. Cake lore links them to the Amish community who made hockey puck sized pies from left over cake batter.

When the farmers and children saw them in their lunch pails, legend has it they’d hollah “whoopie” in happy surprise. Great for a celebratory event, as a gift or a dessert, this comforting snack is full of homespun memories.
